I purchased a 3.4 awhile back to do a swap in my 3.0 pickup. The kid I bought it from said he bought it blown from a guy who took it out of his 97 or 98 4runner, but the kid wasn't sure. Ive rebuilt the motor from the ground up and ready for the swap with the exception of the wiring.... I'm wanting to buy a wiring harness and ECU for the motor (if needed) but I'm not for certain what will work.
So, I need to find out what Yr/Model my motor is out of and the only identification I have is (i'm assuming) the SN:0231553 stamped on the side and that's it. Can anyone help?
And yes I've googled options and cant find anything.
Thanks!
Then it is quite simple decide just what year you would like it to be.
Buy the ECM and the engine harness with all the sensors .
The bare engine does not care what year it is.
X2!
The blocks are pretty much the same across all the 5VZs, with most sensors being the same (the ones that mount to the block). There were "accessory" variations through out the years and models, some had EGR, some didn't; some had a sensor in the power steering pump, others didn't; but these are all things you'll need to source anyway.
My advice, try to find an uncut harness that's detached from the motor (these seem to be the most difficult to find, you can modify an A/T harness to make it an M/T harness with a little work and a lot of patience), then find a matching ECU, then start looking for all the other various accessories (alt, power steering, exhaust, manifolds, intake, EVAP, fuel lines, etc.).
