22RTEC swap into 80 4x4
Tomorrow I'm going to look at a 86 2WD ext cab with a 22RTE(Cali)... I'm pretty sure I'll buy the truck just for the motor but I'm curious about the technicalities.
Will I be able to put my 80 4x4 RF1A transfer case (which currently has a L34 in front of it) on the back of a R151F tranny (that currently has the 2WD RF1A transfer case behind it)?
Basically it would be nice to take the tranny from the 2WD truck and put it on my 1980 4x4 transfercase.
Will update tomorrow how the snooping goes. Would be a great upgrade from my 20R.

No. The cheapest and fastest "up grade" is the 20/22R hybrid...
You're about to face a NIGHTMARE of wiring... Good luck wit dat...
and throw that tranny away and get a G, W or even R.

I successfully hand made a complete engine harness from the stub plugged into the brain of my VW Jetta after an engine fire and rebuild.... Seems like just fitting an 86 harness to an 80 couldn't prove too painful. I realize the lights and such won't be plug and play but those are easy to solder.

Sorry your frustration... I'm still new to yota's. Doing a frame up build but have yet to drive one
I assumed by that table (which I realize is not completely accurate) that it'd have to have the R151F since it doesn't have hubs (its 2wd) or a V6 like the A340F was built for.

The problem with 4x4 specific sites is they tend to leave the 2WD stuff out...
Advanced Adapters does the same thing... I tried to find the same thing you are out but a phone call to them had to do it.
Plus, I got a 2WD in my possession after that. It's got the conversion BH guys want so they can put a V6 tranny behind a 4cyl truck, but R150 denotes it does not have the low 1st gear. Also, the TC behind it is 23 spline. I believe the one you have 21.

Well, picked it up. $400 for a complete truck... not bad. Especially for what this puppy has. More pics here: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...22rtec-204326/
Tranny has the plug:
And the motor looks solid.
