I was wondering if anyone has personally put a 22re in a
dune buggy. My buddy's got a 85 2wd automatic truck that
is pretty much rusting of the frame, but the engine runs
good. I had an 84 celica GT with the same engine and it
was the funnest best running car I've had. (back to the
question) I've picked up a rail and want to put the 22re into
it. I have an adapter plate coming but what things can I
live without when installing it? Some one said I should change
it to carb. but we have the whole truck to take wiring off of. So
is fuel injection and the computer hard to transplant. Also will it
run without the o2 sensor that's on the manifold when I put on
a header. Any input would be appreciated.

i think if you could, it would be better to keep it efi. it will run without an 02 sensor but it will run like ☺☺☺☺, just extend the wire on the sensor to make it long enough to work. i dont know alot about sand rails but i wouldnt recommend having just open headers, i did that for a while on my truck and when i put the exhaust back on there was a noticeable increase in power

 

Running it off of propane could be an option.

 

Is propane going to be able to supply the sustained high RPM's that a dune buggy would need?

i've seen them in buggy's (efi's) and in VW baja bugs
