Help foil thieves

Saw this page linked in BT17R's thread about a friend of his getting his wheels ripped off.

http://www.katu.com/news/8615927.html

Thieves are drilling through hoods on vehicles, and know right where to do it so they can cut the battery cables.

If you have an alarm system, think about upgrading to a battery backup one to go with it.

I have one on my rig, and the way they work is when a thief cuts your main battery cables to disable your alarm, the backup one detects the current loss, and it will then start wailing for as long as its internal battery has juice.

Extra piece of mind to have one installed.

Even a good thief can get around one perhaps, but why not make it even harder for them?

It might piss them off to the point where they draw more attention to themselves.
The last thing a thief wants is attention.

I wonder if they have add on motion detectors that you could mount to the hood in that place where they cut at.

also could add another piece of steel to the inside so they would have to cut through another one when they get through the first,

Corey's idea about a back-up battery seems best... or you could just relocate the battery... you could also run shielded cable to the battery hook up the shield to a big stereo capacitor and connect the other pole of the cap to ground when the saw shorts between the shield and the body...BOOM! scare the crap out of him/her and or knock them flat on their butt...
