im having head problems with my truck and its cheaper to buy a new head than have my head rebuilt and i was woundering if an 85 head would fit on a 84 22r block i know the exhaust ports are diffrent but if it fits i would buy headers from what i have read the only diffrence is the shape of the combustion chamber and the exhaust ports shape but all the specks are the same i tryed finding an 84 head but there hard to find but 85s are all over the place some one please help me ps ive checked engnbldr and they only have 85 to 95 heads

 

Up to 84.5 (year) they 22r was taller and had dish top pistons and the head design is circular for the combustion chamber. On the 85 and up it is more oval due to being a shorter block and having flat top pistons. So no, the head from a 85 will not work because it wont make a full rotation on the motor, due to the fact that your going to contact the head and piston together. But a 84 head will wirk on a 85 lazer block, but will have lower compression. Hope it helps.
