I used 4lo driving my truck up on the trailer when my new engine only had about a minute of run time on it.

Cool, thanks for all the replies. My truck, being a v8 4x4, is always in 4hi, no 2wd option, so my only options are 4lo and center diff lock. The few little trips I've taken into the hills are nothing too tough, and I've only used 4lo coming down hills so I don't have to ride the brakes. Thanks for all the input.

The only time I use 4hi is when I am driving on the road in snow or something and want 4wd for control, but don't want to go as slow as 4lo.

Same here.

Like the others, I go into 4LO when starting the trail. Since I have a manual tranny, I can choose whatever gear to get wheelspeed if I need it, and it's a whole lot easier and quicker to change gears in the trany than the transfer case.

I have ARB's front and rear, and probably use them too much. If I see a tough setion coming, I'll lock them up. I need to work on not hitting those switches too soon - open diffs will make you a better driver!

It is better to have the truck set up to clear the obstacle first, instead of trying and putting yourself and your rig in danger by having to take riskier lines or excessive speed.

2HI- Normal driving, off road driving on dry flat areas, and normal towing

2L0(hubs unlocked)- Backing trailers and pulling out of the boat ramp and some other stupid stuff.

4HI- On road driving in snow, or exceptionally heavy dowpours/flooding, Off road driving on flat grassy, dusty surfaces, Towing off the road on grass or other flat surfaces

4LO- Anything off road that would make me have to slip the clutch. Including: Deep ruts, exceptionally bumpy trails that you go slow through, Tugging someone out, Climbing on rocks or other obstacles, mud bogs, shallow creeks, etc.

THe only thing I'm not sure of is if 4Hi or 4Lo is best for deep water. It seems like the extra power is good, and I can pick a gear for speed up to 25 or so.
