You mean 4.7s in the T-case? If thats the case, your high range should still be stock.

Right now I am running stock 4.30 with 33X12.5X15, 75 on the freeway gps is 3000 rpms, speedo about 5 mph slow. Slow out of the blocks imo, downshift on steeper hills on the highway. 5.29s are sitting in my shop getting ready to go in, will report back...
5.29s are in now, 3000 rpms gives 66 mph on gps, speedo reads 75 mph. Big difference in acceleration and on hills. Also 18 mpg after odometer correction on the freeway.

4.56:1 diffs with my '85 22RE running 32x11.50 BFG's. 4.88's also work well with 32" tires but the 4.56 pinions are a little stronger, so I went with them.

Stock 4.30:1 with my '99 5VZ-FE running LT265-75-16's.

Why do you think 4.88s?
Probably only have 4.1s or 4.30s.

somebody awhile back, told me that the 4cyl toyotas with automatics were geared to 4.88's to "compensate" for the loss of power in the torque converter

4.88s werent available in stock Toyotas until '92 or '93 until '95. That was on mostly 3vze 4runners with automatics and 31" tire package. Not too common.

You have 4.10s or 4.30s . Look on the VIN plate ( I think its under the hood somewhere on yours) will probably say G292 or G282 somewhere.

4.30 then . 4.30s were the common ratio for automatic '84-'88 trucks and '84-'89 4runners.
