What to do before alignment?
What needs to happen before an alignment on 3rd Generation Automatic 4runner?
I need new tires and possibly a steering rack. I am in a new-to-me 2000 4runner and it needs new tires and I'm thinking an alignment as well. Since I don't know the vehicle history I wanted to get an alignment with new tires, but then also thought that if I need to replace the rack then I would still have to get an alignment later. I really don't want a response to my own personal issues
, but instead I am looking for general a checklist on what to do before an alignment. Below are some links that may or may not be helpful, but in my case will help with terminology and just knowing what I'm getting into if I'm going to replace any of these parts. This is my best guess:
Here is a checklist of things to inspect or do before an alignment (starting with inside going out) [I will try and edit this post if I get more feedback]:
Power Steering Pump- inspect and possibly flush. Are you losing PS fluid?
Steering Rack- inspect (leaking around boot) (slop in components or steering)

Steering Rack Guide-

Steering Rack Bushings- inspect and polyurethane upgrade.

Trouble shooting steering components:

Inner Tie Rod Ends (ITRE)- Is there play or leaking between rack and ITRE? Is the boot still in good condition?
Outer Tie Rod Ends (OTRE)-

Upper CV Joints- boots torn or grease leaking out excessively?
https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...-noise-241351/
Lower CV Joints
Lift Options- Will you be installing a lift? (do an alignment afterwards?)
Shocks- replace/upgrade (does this necessitate an alignment as well?)
Springs- replace/upgrade
Tires/Rims- Need new tires? (if you change rim sizes, is an alignment in order?)
Is there anything else, or are there any more helpful links out there that are specific to inspecting/troubleshooting?
