Question ? weber 38 how bad is the mileage?

ive been reading that the 38 will lower fuel economy but can anyone give me an estimate on how big of a dent it will make? are we talking a couple mpg or like 7?
on the racetep website they say "little difference" but is that just their nice sales-pitchy way of saying "your fuel economy is f****d" ?

also i read on a few suppliers website that 32/36 is for stock engines and 38s for engines that have had cam work, headers, exhaust upgrades etc.
is anyone running a 32/36 with bottom side upgrades? or with a stock carb? will there be problems?

thanks

my 32/36 is feeding a header, 268 cam 20 over bored block, stock compression and a catless 2 1/4" exhaust with turbo muffler. I don't like the bottom end it gives me. I get about 22mpg average with it on 4:10's and 31" tires and a 5sp trans. I do believe based on where I have my weber set on the idle mixture screw that I need at least a larger primary fuel jet for it. I wish I had gone to a 38. It does however scream pretty good between 3000-4500 rpm.

I have a 38 weber with a redline cam hedman headers straight piped to a dynomax
and high compression pistons with paradise racing heads.

Get about 19 with 4.10s and 35s!

just based on what you guys have said i dont see where the idea that 38s lower fuel economy comes from.

it doesnt sound like xtreme would suffer much with a larger jet and boredout could bring his mileage closer to stock with different gearing. right?

or am i missing something?

I'll have to see if I can find my thread I started awhile back asking 38 vs 32/36 vs 34/34 pretty good discussion in there, however, I am not happy with my outcome with the 32/36 as of yet, but since I have the block decked I know my cam timing is not where it should be and need the lce cam gear to degree in my cam before making a 100% decision on whether ot not I like it.

its probably not getting ignored, it's just that not many of us are running weber's and most of us that do run them have the 32/36.

i can dig that.
running the 32/36 on suped up engines?

i just talked to a guy at JT outfitters who said the 32/36 can feed an engine with headers and cam upgrades.
but will i not get the most out of the upgrades without the 38?

im hijacking my own thread i think

maybe ill just keep stock for a while....

i hate decisions like this

there's a guy on here that is using a 32/36 on his prerunner race rig. So I don't see a problem in it.

I would probably get better gas mileage once i do my gears.

But I'm alright with 19 mpg. not to mention i hot rod it every where.
I dont imagine people are getting THAT much better?

holy cow even if it needs a rebuild that's a good price. did you get everything with it though? ie throttle linkage parts, pvc hose barb fitting, intake adapter etc etc?

Does anyone have any tricks to tune the weber 3236 because i'm getting 12 mpg with my 30" tires, fuel regulator, new plugs, new wires, 20r head, tuber header and 2 1/4 catless exhaust. Any help would be amazing thank you.

I'm getting 15mpg with the 38. Now I'm waiting on a new gasket set for the adapters.
