Water crossing depth

Water crossing depth
Ok, so iv been wondering if you have stock supension, 31s, and diff breathers how deep of standing water can you safely cross? If you have a 22r there would be no drivtrain/engine electronics to worry about right? Can your trany or t-case suck water in? And will water in your clutch damage it? So can you basically cross as deep as your intake and ignition.

The transmision and transfer case both have vents, they're on the top basically just under the floor. So you could get water in them. Some people extend them up into the engine compartment near the top of the firewall. The clutch should be OK getting wet, but do not use it when it's under water. If you seperate the clutch from the pressure plate you could end up with a film of water between them and it won't engage again. If the water is very muddy that could mess up the clutch.
If the water is getting as deep as your intake make sure you don't go too fast, the wave in front could get higher than the intake. And double check the depth through the entire puddle, there could be a deeper hole in the middle.
To be safe a good limit is 4" below a level that could cause problems. A hydrolocked engine is not a good thing.

Depends on if the water is moving - only a couple inches of fast moving water will wash the truck downstream...
The air intake is actually pretty low - behind the headlight. Water over the bumper level can be a problem.
x2 for hydrolock = bad

the air intake for a 22r (if stock) is right behind the driver's side of the grill. behind the headlight is the intake for the newer truck (86 and up). so basically if your a bit over the stock bumper you will be OK. i have stock intake and have had about 5" of water in the cab and didn't suck ALOT of water (no hydrolock).
I haven't decided on whether or not i like that stock intake tube, nice to sucking cold air but could be bad for sucking water.
