Why do you need 35" tires for a daily driver? Why not just buy a nice 2wd taco?

I owned a 2wd truck here once and it's no fun this time of year plus I want something I can take camping/offroad on the weekends. So I don't really need 35s, of course i don't NEED a 1000 whp awd talon either hahahaha

I'm looking to buy a 98 4runner and would like some insight. Have 2 to choose from, both 3.4L, one manual, both 4x4. Manual feels like it has more power 0-60, but has higher mileage(171k km -260k km). Manual is 2k cheaper. What sort of problems should I be on the lookout for.

Manual $6k USD 160k miles

Auto $7.6k USD 100k miles

Leaning towards manual, even with 60k more miles, better feel on road, less noise.

Manual on 265/70R16, other on LT 245/75R16. Same stock rims.

Auto has more scrathing Int/Ext, and has rub damage underneath. Rear passenger door doesn't close properly and rattles.

Both rear bumpers are rusting on the drivers side, is this a common thing?

Rear seals on both look good, just want to know if there are any other problem areas to look out for.
