Vibration when 4WD id disengaged...
So, I just installed the bilstein 5100 shocks on my 06 tacoma DC. The shocks were set to have a 1.5" lift for the front to level it out. Immediately after install there was a vibration (like a tire rub or cyclical vibration of ridges rubbing somewhere) so I took and double checked the work and nothing was rubbing. Then I started systematically trying to determine where the issue was. As soon as I engage the 4WD the vibration stops, but when disengaged it does it again. I suspected that it might be the alignment, however just had it aligned a few hrs ago and no dice. Curious if any one knows or has any idea what might be the issue.

Those are great questions, I called the tech and asked the same question, he elaborated that the noise was most likely the bearings in the the diff that took the weight when the 4WD was disengaged. however he'd seen "a lot of metal shavings" when he'd drained the fluid out, suggesting that the gears might or "probably are" worn or bad. He informed me further that since changing the bearings would require breaking the diff out and open, it'd be just as well to rebuild it at the same time.
If any one can call BS on this I welcome it, as I really would like a more precise and cost effective way to solve the issue.
anyone know where to buy a 06 tacoma front diff rebuild kit?
