i went to a junk yard and found two 86 model tailgates one in mint condition and the other is in good shape with a few dents and a few little spots of surface rust any way will the 86 model tailgate bolt up directly to my 80 model pickup ? i need help in the next 8 hours i have to pick it up first thing in the morning on my way out of town.

I believe they are different bed sizes... but I may be wrong but i'm pretty sure.

why yes... yes it is lol couldnt find a better example lol i use yours to compare cause its about the closest to original as i can find! hope you dont mind prolly should have asked and i looked it over and the lip on the bottom is different but good news is i found 79 tailgate today as welll just needs more work

its in a little ruffer shape than i want but i can handel it if anyone has one in good shape id prefer a better one
