This is the front joint. I also had to replace the yoke. Drive line shop did it all.
those pics are a prime example of failure due to proper maintenance IMO...lucky that thing did not fall out of the truck and cause more further damage to your driveshaft, TC or worse. The company I used to work for lost one in a Ford van, it took out the transmission and almost cause an accident on I-5...

yea keep up on your u-joints.

the front drive shaft on my '80 pickup busted the t-case in half and put a hole in my tranny...all because the front u-joints were bad.

luckily mine on the 4runner are good to go and greased up!

it's not that i CAN'T do my own u-joints, it's just that sometimes i don't have the TIME.

U-joints always seem to go bad at bad times?

Okay I'll ask my question here I just had my tires changed from 31/10.5 /15 with a mud snow tread to 30/9.5 /15 after they finished I noticed a knocking sound come from the rear end at slow speed I probably didn't hear it before because of the tire noise on the old tires.Iv'e had a rear end go once and it did not sound the same it made noise when turning.Would the Ujoint failing make the clunk clunk soound?

But you have the time to pull a shaft and drop it off for someone else? Nancy!

OC your right. From what I got out of my brother this after noon the truck has been like this since he bought it 3-4 years ago. It was only driven about a month before it was parked for the 3-4 years.

The shop I took it to today, had the two u joints and yoke ready for pick in 3 hours. Not bad when you can't do it your self cause of the work week.

This joint was in for 2 weeks back when I had some bad driveline angle issues. All 4 caps damaged, 2 of the crosses smashed, no bearings in 3 cups.....and i did 80mph on the interstate the day i pulled the shaft
