Talking Truck does wierd stuff on startup

Hey new at mechanics here..just learning i was wondering if someone could help me out

My truck when i try and start it up in the morning most of the time it sputters at like 900 rpms and keeps sputtering and sometimes it sputters till it stalls other times it sputters till it starts. I put some seafoam in the gas tank to see if i could clean the injectors out a bit without having to take them out, and it was going good for a bit then decided to do it again. Would anyone know what this could be?

a little more history might help

When was the last time it had a major tune up??

Air filter, wires, cap, rotor and sparky plugs

Has the fuel filter been changed lately??

Toyota said these were life time filters but that statement was made before the great addition of ethanol to the fuel system .

Have a habit of driving around with a below quarter gas tank??:jessica::jessica:

Most of these engines start with the turn of a key although if people had there hands in the emissions systems it can cause interesting problems

It sounds like you might have a problem with your cold-start injector. Another thing you can do just for good measure is SeaFoam the motor itself. Pull the vacuum line off the brake booster and plug it with your thumb. Have a buddy keep the rpm's up and move your thumb out of the way just enough for the vacuum to suck SeaFoam past your thumb. DON'T LET THE ENGINE DIE WHILE YOU'RE DOING THIS. Get about half the can in there and shut the engine off. Let it sit for about 15-20 minutes then start it up again and get ready for smoke. After about 30 minutes of idling you should have successfully killed every mosquito for 3 counties...and cleaned out your engine too.

Does it run ok after it's warmed up?

Might try the fuel pump test jumper and see if that makes any difference:

If so, it could be the fuel pump is cutting in and out for a while right after starting.

It runs not terrible when warm. I just bought a fuel filter rotor, and cap at work, will change those. After if it still is acting up ill do the seafoam, then test the fuel pump
Thanks for the replies

- on a different note i also got my cata taken out now it sounds pretty badass!

Thanks. Changing the fuel filter is a little frustrating. Maybe grab a few more crush washers if you plan on doing it soon.
