Truck broken into last night!!!! New key-hole assembly or repair??
So some Jerk ass stole my Fairly new 80g I-pod from my Taco sometime last night, right in front of my Girlfriends house in San Francisco. Odd since she lives in a really quiet, decent neighborhood, but i guess the economy is proving that wrong huh? Anyway thank goodness they didn't break the windows or anything, but looks like they somehow punched my Passenger side key-hole assembly in cause it wasn't their when i went to open it this morning. Upon further inspection i realized its still there but pushed back down inside the door dangling around. The actual push/pull lock on the inside of the door still functions and both inner and outer door levers work when the door is unlocked, but i can no longer use a key to open it from the outside. Is this pretty much beyond fixing? Do i have to order a whole new assembly and if so where would i go about getting one. I'd prefer to just have the same one fixed, so i don't have to re-key the whole thing. Any ideas on Cost? Should i just take it to toyota to get it fixed right? Any suggestions are welcomed...Thanks!

I had the same thing happen to a Honda Civic last year. I removed door panel, located the lock assembly, and reinstalled it. It was held in place with a snap ring that was also found inside the door.

I have had my Toy stolen 2 times in less than a one year period. I was fortunate to get it back both times.
However both times they did the exact same thing as was done to yours.
DON'T take it to the stealership for anything!!
The best thing to do is go to your local bone yard (pull-n-save) and pull a door handle assembly from a wrecked toy. Get the entire door handle including the lock. Don't worry about getting a key for it, any locksmith is capable of rekeying it to your existing keys. (If they tell you they can't then they suck, don't even waste any more of your time with them, and certainly don't waste your money! just find another one that is capable.)
You will need to retain the existing metal clip that holds the lock into the plastic hole, otherwise the lock won't set in the hole properly and you will ALWAYS have to wiggle the key to get it out of the lock.
You shouldn't have to pay more than $20 for the door handle, lock, and rekey from a junk yard and competant locksmith

Hey duck! Thanks for the tips, I was thinking the exact same thing after i pulled the door panel off and realized what happened. i have one of those
"In Depth repair manuals" that you get at any Kragen or Auto zone thats specific to your make and model, It gave me an exact breakdown of how to pull off the door panel properly. What i realized is that the little cast metal casing around the actual key assembly busted, but there was still a little notch on the inside of the plastic door handle that it wedges into, It went right back into place, but with only that little notchl holding , it would have fallen back off in no time. SO... I remembered GORILLA GLUE!!!! I took my time and placed it carefullfy when the glue was tacky, and PRESTO works and feels like new. BUt yes there is a place near me called "Pick & Pull", so if it comes off again, I now know how to fix it, and can just get a lock assembly off an old discarded yota truck if need be! Thanks man...

Hey. If you need a new lock assembly I could prob get one and re-key it. I'm an automotive locksmith, I work for High-Tech Locksmiths.. we have a contract with Carmax so every major Carmax has one of us there to make all their keys and remotes and stuff. Anyways...I could probably tell you how to re-key it also. You would just have to get the right lock wafers from me or idk who else but its actually not that complicated
