transmisson name question?

transmisson name question?

i have a 1986 4runner with an automatic transmission wondering what the name of the tranny is? For instance the name of a chevy tranny is a turbo 400!

Isn't the correct name for the Chevy a TH400? People just nickname it a "Turbo" 400?


Your transmission in your 86 should be an A340H.

I believe the TH400 stands for Turbo-Hydrostatic 400, just a guess though. I think in your Yota you will have an A43D or an A340E or A340H. No cool name though . Toyota is enough!

if your always squealing the tires off stop light from stop.. then i belive its pretty cool.. tranny just no fancy name......just keep some used tires on hand for all those burnouts

Right, hydramatic. One of those names that GM came up with in the 50's or 60's. I wonder why they are doing so bad.................

what is the differnce between A340E and A340H? If I have an E what would be the issue with using an H?????

OMG, all of you are WRONG!

It's an 86! It's an f! As in, "A340f"

H stands for Hydraulic

f, four wheel drive, IIRC.

No, it is not an H case.
