I know this is a silly question but anyone know if a 87 4runner 22r tranny is the same as my 86 efi pick up my trans is a w56

 

i think 85 and up 4runners only have EFI so if its a 22re 1st generation it has a w56. your 87 4runner has a 22re not the 22r

 

W56 trans were offered in the EFI trucks. G58 was offered in the carbed trucks. There's a few other trannies out there that were also used. Both trannys are interchangeable if there top mounted shifters.

Look under the hood and you will see a plate on the firewall. The bottom right hand side of plate will tell you what tranny is in the truck. If its never been changed.

 

my truck is definatly got a w56 but i need a new one and i am having a hard time matching up donor tranys that dont have any stickers or plates on them i had a guy that didnt know much about his 4runner but had a tranny and not sure its the same as my truck thanks guys for your knowledge.
