transmission shift linkage

If i put my truck in park it does not want to come out, if i leave it in Neutral and pull E brake it works fine, truck shifts out fine even under a load, i stopped to get gas it was fine then, when i got back in i had to depress the button on the shifter and work it several times to get it out of park,
I was told this was a linkage and not a big fix but i wanted advice

It might be the electric switch that tells the tranny shifter that the brake pedal is pushed down and unlocks the shifter. How about a little vehicle info?

there is usually a small pop off by the shift lever that you can remove and than push the button down to release the shift lever

it is an 02 v6 sport edition 4x4 with about 125k miles on it
It will come out of park you just have to work it a little. I have not been putting it in park i put it in N and pull the E brake , I live in the city so its parked on flat ground and usually has a curb in front i can put my tires against so i dont have to worry about it rolling but i want it fixed.

I didnt follow about the button I should pop off, more details pls? If i didnt give enough truck info please ask and ill fill u in
