I'm getting some Trail gear sliders for my 98 4 runner. How are you guys mounting these? The brackets that I'm getting with look like they have holes for bolts in em what kind of bolts are you guys using? Grade 8 grade 5? Metric 8.8 10.9? Also I would imagine welding the brackets would be smart as well. Any help is appreciated.

 

most of the people you will find on here just weld them to the frame.

 

yea just weld em if you REALLY wheel and need them, if your goin for the mall crawlin look, just get steps.

My runner sees dirt more than pavement. They will be taking a beating I was just wondering if the weld would be secure enough as I thought people were bolting em down as well.

works out great, just make sure you want them on forever
and welding is way more secure than bolting, welds are even stronger than the metal

 

The holes in the brackets arent for bolts! .. Those are for rosette welds, you fill them in with weld, it makes the plates much much stronger. Then weld the bracket around the perimeter like in the post above.

I wouldnt bolt them... thats rediculous, ever drilled Metal? It's a pain and takes forever and if you dont know how to properly drill metal your going to waste bits in about 15 seconds.

 

^^^ yes I have drilled metal, I worked in a pretty big industrial farming hardware/fab shop down here in norther CA. I'm actually just starting my welding classes this semester though. I have had little experience welding but me and my pops can knock it out. Thanks guys I appreciate the help!

 

bolting wouldnt be good with a boxed frame anyway...w/o sleeving the inside at least

also make sure you get the 60 inchers and not the 58 inch. The 60's fit nicer imo
