Tire Recommendation

Greetings!

I would like to inquire about what I should get for my Daily Driven '97 SR5 4Runner. I was considering in getting the B.F. Goodrich: All Terrains, or the Mud Terrains. I don't normally use the 4WD or plan on driving in the mud, but I sure do like the looks of the MT's. What are PROS of the AT's? thanks for your input. ANd should I get a lift as well?

AT/s are an awsome tire, the MT/s just hook up better in the mud. Since you dont like the mud, you will most likely like the AT/s better. They are still the most aggressive looking at on the market in my books. Do you want a lift?

Fear my encredibly bad english ramble.

Thanks for the advice. Man, you guys are quick to respond!
I think I'm leaning towards the AT's in 285/75/16 with my stock
rims. Your right it does look aggressive but also with style, sort
of like James Bond. lol or maybe not!

Welcome to YT. Go with the BFG AT's They are great tires. I have BFG MT's and i love them but i drive in the snow and mud at least three times a week. AT's will do well with moderate use in the mud. They are great for snow and ice driving. Allot of people where i live use them because they do well on the icy and snowy roads.

Pros of at's: Less tire wear that the MT's. They last longer when used on the road and are quieter.
I have found my MT's to be fairly quiet compared to others.

Only get a lift if your going to use it or need it to fit bigger tires.

like 285/75's, I have a 2" lift, and I still run 265/75. It looks good, no rubbing whatsoever, And can hardly nitice a difference in gas milage or spedometer accuracy.

You'll need a lift for the 285/75/16's

Im also in the same boat. I still have no idea if I want bfg at or mt for the summer. I keep on flipping back and forth. I am planning on spending alot of time offroad after the next move. But I am on the highway quite a bit. Alot of people tell me to buy the mt/s because they are pure awsome, and still quiet. Does anyone know if there is alot of drifting on the highway with the mt/s?

I drive allot on the highway. Ive put like 7000 miles (Driving back and fourth from home to school for the holidays) on my 2 month old BFG MT's and they still look good. Not too bad of tire wear. Yes they are quite and a very good tire simply amazing in my view, best in mud and snow.

Ive tested and proven the at's in some slick clay, deep water holes, loose shale, and they were awsome. I hear the mt's are a night and day difference in the mud though.

I have had M/t and A/t. both have three ply sidewalls, a huge advantage over a lot of other tire brands.

the muds were not so good in snow and wet roads. I just got a new set of A/Ts and I am really happy with them.

For a DD go for the A/Ts for sure

dlbrunner, your profile says you live in phoenix, how often do you get a chance to test tires in snow and ice?

Thanks everyone for your input. I got the AT's put on this
weekend. Looks Sweet! And the ride is fairly smooth even
on the freeway! Now I'm considering upgrading the shocks,
I have the OE ones still on with 122,000 miles. Are the
Rancho 5000 a good upgrade, just for a more comfortable ride?
ANyway thanks again....

If it's a DD then get the TerraGrapplers and enjoy similar off road performance and much better on road performance especially in the rain. They have much better hydroplane resistance and are factory siped and will save you almost a couple hundred bucks for the whole sha-bang. I've driven on three sets of BFGs over the last 10 years and I'll never own another set on a daily driver;maybe a weekend warrior but not anything I'd be spending alot of time on pavement.

I used to have Terra Grapplers on the 98 SR5. Lovedem'. Good in the back country for an AT. Awsome on the highway. I put over 70k on mine (honestly!) and still have them on a set of 20z. 305/50/20. The guy at the tire store said I should still get 7-10k out of them. But as of now.....there in the shop. The Runnerz got new shoes. 31x11.50x15 Super Swamper SX's. (WHAT MUD?)
