thoughts on these upgrades

First time on here and noticed lots of similar posts were people are upgrading to a 285/75r16 tire from 265/75r16. In the same boat narrowed it down with new shocks, going with the rancho 9000xl series. Goodyear MT/R 285/75r16 tires. WIll add a 2.5 leveling kit for the front should have plenty of clearance for the back. I have a 05 Tacoma double cab 4.0 V6 4x4. Wanted to see if this is a good combo. Do mostly highway driving with the occasional off-roading and mud pits.

your gas mileage will suffer a bit from the larger tires, partially cuz they're larger, and partially cuz they're MT's. sounds sweet other than that. Post up some pics (there's a write up somewhere on here... I never have used the gallery, but you can... Photobucket is the easiest way to put pics in a post.. just copy and paste the img code.) and Welcome to Yotatech!!!

oh, and just a heads up... the search button is always your friend... some topics have been beaten to death , so we get kinda frustrated when someone brings them up.

Your gas mileage will definitely suffer! I had a pretty significant drop in gas mileage when I went from 31X10.5 AT's on the stock 15" alloys to 33X12.5 MT/R's on 15X8 steelies. The MT/R's are also much louder on the highway but I wouldn't trade them for anything! Best tire I have ever driven on! Post some pics so we can see what you are working with. Welcome to YotaTech!

BTW jrobertson4runnner if you're still in Pflugerville we should go wheeling sometime. I'm always looking for new Yota drivers to hit the trails with.

I've installed quite a few lift's on tacoma's, and i'll say, spend the money for a quality kit. Not one of those strut spacer's that are cheap and easy. You'll regret it.

I installed a 2.5 inch spacer lift on my bro's taco. That was on a friday night. By monday morning, he was online looking for a new kit and asking me to take the spacers out Go for a kit that sells you a whole lifted strut assembly or a coil over. You'll be much happier.
