Tacoma Tranny oil and filter
I heard that when an automatic tranny has not had its oil changed it is better to leave it alone as it will cause problems if the oil is changed.
I bought my 99 Tacoma recently and it has 108k miles and it does not appear that the oil was changed.
Is it ok to change it? Also is Dexron III better than Dexron II?? My tacoma is the 4x4 version.
Thanks!!

The fluid should be cherry red. If it is brown or black, it prabably is original and may or may not be ok to change. I think 108k is not TOO much but still quite a bit. Search, I recently posted how I flushed my tranny at home. Took 17 quarts of Toyota ATF dex 3 I think. Use the fluid reccomended by toyota manual. Also realize that flushing and drain and fill are two different things. You can only get out 1/3rd of the fluid from the tranny by draining. And for what its worth, I did mine at 30k and it looked really good, so next time I'll go for a 45K interval and see how it looks. Good luck and try searching.
