I have an 82 toyota and have been building it for a while now. I am doing some planning because i plan to stack my cases as well as
get a stronger transmission in there all at once-- as soon as i get my tax refund. I have heard that putting a 4.7 before a stock 21 spline tcase can really cause some issue. So my question is, what part of the tcase is 23 spline vs 21 spline, and can a 21 spline tcase and a 23 spline be interchanged between the same transmission? Also, any suggestion on what options i have as far as 5 speed transmissions go? I dont have much faith in my L50 at the moment

 

I'm not sure of the answer, but I'd say either do a google search, or post on Marlin Crawler's site if you don't get any answers. They have a lot more expertise on this kind of stuff over there. But a lot of this sort of stuff is out there already if you search.

 

Output on your tcase is 21 spline.

Need 23 spline for V6 trannys

Dual adapters come 21 or 23
4.7 gears 21 or 23

To use 23 4.7 gears you need 23 dual adapter.
It's an upgrade over stock 21.
You can still do 21 if ya want.

You can't upgrade to 23 spline without changing everything to 23 spline essentially.

Lots of variables but that's the basics.
