Symptom of A/C going out?
So this is about my V6 Camry, not a truck, but I figured I can get some general information.
So, it began last year with a trip up to Tahoe. I went too fast, overheated and I personally got really hot too. The A/C would shut off on every hill climb, and come back on during the downhill. I figured that this was just an active measure designed by Toyota to keep me from frying the motor.
But Summer is on it's way, and I've had to use the A/C a lot more. When ever I idle at a light, the A/C eventually shuts off. And then comes back on once I start driving. I played around with it, and realized that when I put her in neutral, and hit about 2000rpm, the A/C comes on in about 45sec. When it does, it drops about 400rpm. I don't know what would cause this, but it sure aint normal...

A/C will shut off with the engine too hot. Check the cooling system and make sure it is in tip top shape, should not be overheating.
There is often an "AC Amplifier" that has an RPM adjustment on the Toyotas. It works in conjunction with the AC Idle Up system that is supposed to bump up the idle speed when the AC compresor is running. The idea being if the engine bogs down due to the A/C, the amplifier detects that and cuts the compressor off. But if all is working OK, then the A/C keeps running. Make sure the idle up system is working properly, possibly adjust the fast idle up a little and/or turn down the A/C Amp RPM adjustment. On my '85, the idle up valve is atop the valve cover, A/C Amp is under the dash, passenger side footwell.

I'm thinking it might be the second half of the post. I just dropped in a new radiator and hoses, but I left the old thermostat in. I'll have to consult the manual and see if I can find anything. I doubt my adjustments are anywhere close to where yours are, seeing how my motor is turned sideways.
