suspension question

Just throwing this out there. Here is the idea I like the its just not a fan of the torsion bar setup. Is anyone running or attempted to run a 3rd gen 4r front suspension in a 2nd gen. Let me know. Lift, no lift, to much work for little advancement in handling... You get the idea thanks for any info

You can run coilovers with a TotalChaos or Blazeland LT front ends.

I would happily run either just don't have the funds. I can weld and fab that's kinda the idea I was going for. But if its not going to be any real benefit ill have to move on

Why coilovers? A lot of people will tell you the torsion bar setup is stronger. The overseas Hilux continued to use the torsion bar setup after the Tacoma came along. The US market has been tailored to ride comfort vs strength/off-road ability for quite some time now, hence the overseas trucks with factory solid front axles after '86.

Ya, and a major disappointment to. Our own government to, hate it!!


Both setups use a-arms, you could throw coils in there. People have. The right coils and it will be a little softer then torsion bars. But still not gonna have any more travel. I don't see the need to switch just for handling.

Should have been a little more specific I do off road my truck. I was more or less asking if the newer 4runner setup is any more capable than the torsion bar set up. Looking for more travel don't realy want to switch to solid axle and it would be a long time before I could afford an LT setup

Throw some ball joint spacers on your existing setup and call it good until you go LT. I almost get a kick out of the added difficulty wheeling stock IFS.

Ball joint spacers and low profile bump stops are about all you can do to increase the travel of your stock IFS on the cheap. Don't know what else to tell ya.

Thanks I was leaning that direction just saw a complete setup on a runner in the yard and thought I would throw it out there.

Why doesnt my 97 t100 have coil overs is it because it has the torsion bars.

T100s use the same torsion bar setup as '86-'95 4runners & pickups.
