Stuttering at 3500 rpm in 02 4runner
Hi, I replaced the plugs and wires about a week ago and I am getting stuttering around 3500 rpm. I am also getting a hard start once in awhile, especially after having the key on. It starts eventually but kicks out a bunch of white smoke. I took it to Midas to get it looked at, but did not have half a day to leave it there. They thought it sounded like a bad injector. Is there a way to check if an injector is bad? How easy is it to replace an injector?

White smoke does not usually indicate a bad injector, it usually indicates a head gasket leak. Smell your exhaust when you first start it and see if it smells sweet. Any water coming out the tailpipe (besides after startup for a few minutes - that is normal)? It sounds to me like Midas is making wild guesses, so bring it to a full service shop and have them look at it. They can test your injectors, but it sounds like you should have them do a compression and a leak-down test. How is your coolant level in the overflow and the radiator? Any milkshake in the oil or coolant?

milehi, you've probably already done this, but double check your wires, make sure that they're definitely fitting onto the plug, a lot of times you'll feel a nice little snap when it geos onto the plug. Are they gapped correctly? Also, what part number are your plugs?

The dual electrode plugs are not supposed to be gapped before install. The gap on our plugs are .43 or .44 from the factory, but each electrode's gap is 1/2 that so .22 per side. I remember reading on NKG's site (and on threads here on YT) that if you try to gap these plugs you'll have problems.
