starter problems

i have a 1990 toyota 4 runner and just recently when i drive 15 or 20 miles and shut it off it acts like the starter went out but if it sits like 30 minutes it will start rite up could it be the starter getting hot and causing this once it seems to cool off it turns over fine

no

when u turn the key to start it it acts like the battery is dead all that happens is the dash lights dim and no noise from the starter the battery is brand new and it turns over after it sits for 15 or 20 minutes

I know this thread is a couple months old but I've been having the same problem as of late. I drive for 5 minutes, turn it off, turn it back on, no problem. I drive for long enough for the truck to warm up and it won't start again until it's had time to cool off. I know it's the starter getting hot though. I can spray down the starter with water for a minute to cool it off and it'll start back up fine. I know I'm missing the heat shield that goes over the passenger side exhaust manifold so that's probably contributing to the starter getting too hot. I'm just curious as to whether or not you figured out a fix for it.
