where does the brake spring connect?

i am replacing my master and booster. i was disconnecting the pin from the petal and the brake spring shot back twards the steering coulum, under the dash and when i found it and pulled it out it was disconnected. . i have know idea where it connects to other than the petal? any suggestions? or a link thanks
