Speedometer is off
Hello,
Hopefully this is the correct place to post this, I figured my problem dealt with my car's computer. My speedometer is 5 mph off. When I am going 70 mph a phone app, GPS device, and police radar construction zone sign all say 65 mph. I also used a stop watch to time between two mile markers and came up with the same number. At lower speeds it seems to be around 2-3 mph off which is really strange.
I called the Toyota place I bought the car at and they said the newer Toyota's are designed to be 3 mph off, there was no tweaking he could do, he had no control and he believed it was a government mandated change that was also happening to other vehicle companies. That sounds like a load of BS to me but he wants to charge me $50 (despite me leasing the car through his branch) just to check it out, whether there is something wrong or not. Then if it is wrong he would order a new speedometer and charge me the part fee and installation. I barely have enough money to drive the hour and a half there and back just to have them look at it, so stupid.
Anyways, has anyone heard of this or had this problem? The guy said he gets these complaints all the time. It makes it incredibly hard to judge my speed with it being off and I am the type of person that likes to be perfectly at the speed limit.
Thanks for any help!

Called around and it seems that this is "within manufacture's standards" so they can't do anything about it. They said at higher speeds it is allowed to be further off according to the manufacture's of Toyota vehicles.
