spark plug wire question
Man I feel like an idiot asking this but here it goes. I am deployed to Iraq or else I would just go out and look under the hood. I bought a 2001 4runner limited while out here and wnat to have some things waiting for me when I get back. I looked at getting some sparkplugs and wires. Here is what confused me. I did a search and it came back with 2 different things - one set only had 3 wires - the other came back with 6. My engine is the 5VZFE, its a 2WD, I don't know what else you need to know. It says something about direct coil, so what is mine? is it direct coil or do I buy the 6 wire set. Thanks for the help...

where did you check for them? on the 3.4 all you will have is 3 wires. the wires go from 1 coil on the passenger side to 1 plug on the driver side for each coil. I have put on a set of NGK wires on mine and there were only 3 wires to connect 6 plugs. And although I will not tell you that you are stupid, I will suggest to try using a search to a vast amount of information on this and many topics.

Buy the 3 wire set. Our engines are "waste-spark", meaning they have coil packs instread of a distributor, so one wire can handle two spark plugs.
I would also recommend going OEM, since they are not expensive and last a lifetime (my old ones lasted 8 years and were still going, I replaced them for routine maint.)

Cool, thanks for the help. I checked out NGK.com. I think that they were $30 for the set of wires. Is it worth the $$ to get the iridium style plugs?
Marko - I have read a lot of posts and see where everyone tells the other to search for the information they need, so I did. It was only after that that I asked my question. Maybe I didn't ask the right question in the search. But I don't try and burden people with my ignorance.
I am not sure if I am going to get NGK or OEMs yet. I read a few posts about the impedence and ohm factors but all of that went right over my head. For what I want (just a reliable replacement set of plugs and wires) I don't think it is going to matter too much. I will check out the OEM sets though. Thanks for the help
