Spare tire not coming off

I need to put my spare tire on but not sure why the tire is not coming down. 96 4runner sr5 4x4. I had to twist the round button with pliers to get it loose but cant get the tire off? I really need help to get it back to my house and to work. Friend drove car to airport, spun out, and blew out front right tire.

Thanks

Don't use pliers. Use the tool that is with your factory jack.

Soak the mechanism for lowering the spare in PB Blaster overnight then give it a whirl. Rust is likely the cause of the issue you're dealing with and it's a good idea to operate it a little bit every now and then to prevent this happening again.

Then tell your friend what a jack*** he/she is.

Are you twisting the spring from underneath the truck?? If so that is NOT where you lower the tire. Find the long tubular rod under the back seat and pop the rear hatch, insert the rod until you bottom out on the hole then crank away.

The spring loaded button keeps tension on the tire to keep it from rattling.

Right under the bumper, you will see a cut out for it. The diagram withthe jack should explain it or the manual will.

There should be a slit directly in the middle where your tailgate/hatch meets the rear bumper. Put the end with the hook on it through that.
