So here is my issue...

I got an 89' Runna she great but the rear window I removed all together along with all of it motor ect...

I found this place in Boulder,Co where I live that sells Soft tops with a Window that can be also used as a bikini top too...They sell for 700$ once you add in Taxes. I can pick it up so no Shipping.


Here are My questions???

Anyone on here wanna sell a used soft TOP????


Also do you get better gas miliege with a soft???

we know its weight is much less at only 30lbs verses the 400 pound stock topper...

 

Why did you take all the stuff out of the lift gate? IIRC the hard top is not 400 pounds...two average outta shape dudes can easily manipulate the top off the truck and around the garage for storage...I would know.

 

I believe 4Crawler had on his site thats its about 200 pounds. I have a softopper, love it. Only problem is I had to put it away for the winter.

I can't say anything for the gas mileage, I would say if the mileage is better, its not a big enough difference to notice.

Road noise is a little louder, but alot quieter then I thought it was going to be. And I think I might have dropped the top all the way maybe 3 times all summer. I opted for the "safari style" which was very quick and worked great on the freeways as well.

BTW, I won't be selling mine.

They say once the temp drops below 40 degrees you run the risk of cracking the vinyl windows. This wouldn't be a good alternative for you if you are planning on using it all winter in Boulder.

 

i really doubt the top is even close to 200lbs. ive moved mine off and on by myself and i'm not particularly strong.

i also thought about going this route with my 4runner, but i live in a high theft area (it's already been stolen once...)

 

Im gonna jump on the band wagon with the top not being 400 or even 200lbs. Ive removed mine on my own and carried it on my back and I doubt I could do that with 200lbs.

$700 for that top isn't a bad deal since the can-bak is over a grand and the one other place I know of that makes soft tops are like $850.

 

I've got a softopper on my tacoma and love it. I run mine all winter without any problems. It does get pretty "stiff" in the cold weather though. BTW i found mine on craigslist for 200 bucks. Not bad...

You have to remember though. Killer toy tops use the stock rear window, and both the KTT top and Can back top have a system for utilizing a roof rack, the Softopper does not.

I still love my softopper, don't get me wrong, but there are reasons why folks fork over the extra cash for the other tops.

 

I had this Can-Back on my 86 and loved it. Didnt really change my MPG..And I to put on and took off my hard top by myself Im really wanting one for my Tacoma..

 

I used to take it off by myself, now since the soft top can stay on all summer instead of a day or 2 at a time (Washington Rain) I just wait for the neighbor to get home and way easier to do with 2 people.

That canback is sweet by the way, not to mention the whole rig!!

Softtopper is out of boulder they said the plastic windows can handle cold temps...My wife says there is no money for a 700$ topper...But There is also no window on my runner either and winter is here in colorado!!!

 

So, why did you pull the window out...?

I had to go searching way back to find the email. This was the reply from Bob at Softopper when asking about the windows:

The rear window is removable...but the sides are sewn on to the top.

The windows are pretty flexible...but we don't recommend it as a winter top at all, as very cold weather could be a problem with the windows.

I can't remember having had any window cracking problems in the summer months with any of our Softoppers. The only time time we get calls is in the winter, when people try and roll up the back windows when it's very cold and the windows are brittle.

If you only use it between May and September..I don't forsee you having any problems.
