A simple question about adding a body lift.

I am ordering a 3" toytec lift for my 2000 4runner and i have been wondering how to get it even higher. i plan on putting 33's in the future but i still want to ride higher. Would it be logical to also put something like a 1-2" BL as well? i was thinking something like the Daystar with bushings. I don't have as much experience as the rest of you so i was wondering what your opinion is. I am using the car for my DD but i plan on doin some modest offroading as well. (mud, stumps, trials. no rock crawlin'). Thanks for the help guys.

Body lifts typically are not a good idea IMHO. I would never go over 1", otherwise you start getting into problems with your COG.

Check out 4Crawler.com for body lifts. Roger is a great guy to work with.

Wouldnt a body lift keep your COG lower while still providing you with lift?

Well I'll take the opposite side and say that a body lift is better than a suspension lift if it will get you to your goal by itself. That said, I agree with DC that 4Crawler is the man and 1 to 1 1/2 inches is the max especially on a third gen without running into complications. But this also doesn't sound like what the OP wants.

No it should not give you specific problems in regards to the the Toytec lift. The only concern is lifting more than you need to for a specific tire size. Most guys here will tell you to lift as much as you need to fit the tire you want but as little as you can get away with to achieve your goals. Also check out Sonoran Steel's FAQ at the bottom of the page I've linked. Lots of good 3rd gen info.

A body lift does indeed raise the COG. however, it raises it less than a suspension lift, because of raising the frame and drivetrain, it only raises the body and associated components.

it is still not a good idea, for many reasons. First of course is the raising of the COG. Second is the added stress is places on the body and mounts. The higher you go, the more leverage is placed on these components.

I have a 1" on one of my 4Runners, but i won't go any higher.

It doesn't take any "evidence" to understand that raising a body over its intended mounting points puts added stress on mounts and mounting surfaces.

i can agree it may put stress on the car but i dont think its enough to make me not want to do it. if you had to recomend a lift for a 2000 4runner about 1 or 2 inches which would you choose?

Suspension Lifts and Body Lifts for you 4Runner:
http://www.wabfab.org/96024Runner/96024Runner.htm

Mine is simple to order...click a few buttons.

I had a 3" OME lift and a 2" body lift on my 00 4Runner.

Hate to break it to you 'Coug but a suspension lift will make your COG higher then a body lift.

What weighs more the body?, Or the frame, drivetrain, and body?

I run a 3" body lift and have had hardly any raise in the COG, hell I don't have a sway bar and I take corners like I'm in a sports car.. I don't reccomend a body lift over 4" or your getting into gun totin' nascar watchin' cousin kissin' territory. I kinda wish I would have gotten Balljoint Spacers and Shackles for lift, but I'm gonna do that anyways. I'm sure Jay351 and ovrrdrive will chime in, they both run body lifts.

OH and I run a Performance Accessories body lift, one of the major chain brands, the hardware and stuff was decent, pucks were good etc.. But if your gonna do it, spend the extra dough and get a 4Crawler body lift, Roger makes nice stuff.
