that is just the way they are. they all do it. one way you can fix it for a while is to get your rear springs rearched. which adds a little lift to the spring. that should last a good while, at least untill you get a spring lift then you can get a one or two inch taller rear spring than the front. it is normal though.

They do this because the 1st gen 4runner is basically that gen of truck, but with the the rear seating and removable top. All the suspension is exactly the same. The rear suspension is just truck suspension and with the added weight of the rear seats, top, etc, then add 19+ years to the equation, you get your sag. 2nd gens have it, but its not as prevalent.

There are a number of ways to counter the rear sag. I'll name them, and you go find the info, fair?

New rear leafs. Add-A-Leaf. Re-arched springs. Longer shackles. Rear blocks. "ZUK Coil mod". Chevy 63" rears.

I put AALs on my 86 4Runner about a month ago. Got the rear end up several inches, in fact the rear bumper went up about 6. Since then I would say it has settled down to about stock but for $40 you can't go wrong. 1st gen runners always look low in the back because the rear wheel well isn't as big.

Get a pair of Helper Springs. I think a company named Hellwig makes them and they are reasonably priced. You can put them on in your driveway and you can pick how much "help" as you want. They bolt to the existing Leaf springs and pull it up giving it as much lift as you want. http://www.hellwigproducts.com/
