Should I regear?

hopefully soon when i gather the money, im gonna be picking up some 31" BFG ATs, im kinda worried though because i have the stock 4.10 gearing, and i know the truck came with 225/75 r15 out of the factory, regearing to 4.56 or 4.88 right now is out of the question

im just looking on opinions and see if you guys think ill be alright with 4.10 gears and 31s? im 16 so all i do is drive around town and to school and back everyday with some occasional off roading with friends

i know if i get the 31s i will lose some power and mpgs will drop a tad too

i just wanna know if power levels will be adequate for what i use the truck for

i DID search around but nothing really came up

truck is a 94 xtra cab, rebuilt 22re, 5spd

I have ran 4.10s with 31s in all three of my Yotas, about 5 years and probably 100K miles combined. The first time I put 31s on I was 16, had the truck before for a year. I noticed a difference but got used to it in a week, and now I'm 100% used to it. Its doable, just be prepared to down shift more.

Shouldn't be too big of a deal. Now, if you had 33's, then you might be in some trouble.

My scenario is similar to yours... started driving my truck when I was 16 then 1 yr later put 31 x 10.50's on 15 x 10 American Racing wheels. Fast forward 16 years and nearly 100K miles and I'm still running 31's on the same rims with the stock 4.10 gears on a 22r 4WD 5spd and let me tell you it is VERY SLOW- like tough to reach the speed limit on the highway!!! Unfortunately it's been so long since I had the 225/75's on there I can't remember what it was like before the tire/wheel switch.

It's doable and you will get used to it, but that doesn't mean you'll like it. Mine is an '86 and it's not fuel injected which will make a little difference? Also not a daily driver.

Don't have to do everything at once. Enjoy your 31's and think about the regear down the road.

I've never ran anything less than 31s on a Toyota! Save up some cash and get 4.88s in the future, but get the 31s now.

You think 4.88's for 31's over 4.56? What are your thoughts? I've been trying to decide between the two for the last several weeks. I have 22r 5spd that came with 4.10's stock.

yeah, but it'd be pushing 4000+RPM on the highway, and it would max out at around 90.lol

It's just that the difference between 4.10s and 4.56s is pretty marginal. You wouldn't want to find yourself wishing you had gone with 4.88s after spending all that $$.

The only con to 4.88s would be if you drive on the freeway a lot because your rpms will be a little higher than 4.56s. If you climb hills all day like me, I would get 4.88s for sure.

I'm talking about REDLINE. Maybe even a little sooner than that. 4.88's with 225-75's would probably do the trick. It would be pretty quick 0-60, though.
