Shakey power mirror

Hi,

I have recently purchased a 1988 4Runner and the mirror inside the exterior housing seems to be loose. It vibrates really bad at high speeds. Can it be tightened down by the door where it attaches? I did a search before posting as suggested but could not find any information to help solve the problem. I hope I can tighten the mirror without having to replace it. Any help or tips would be much appreciated. Thanks.

My 88 p/u does the same. Bad year for mirrors I guess I haven't really looked into it yet, but I'll take a look at mine this weekend and see what I can find.

On my '91, which may be a slightly different design, there are two ears at the top of the mirror mech that break off. These are loacated inside the housing and can be reached by unscrewing the single screw located on the underside of the housing.

For my fix, I replaced the broken tabs with a couple of screws threaded into the mirror. From the outside you can't see the repair and the vibration is now gone.
