Rust on an 88 toyota pickup

I just got this truck a few days ago. Theres two spots of rust on the fender and the bed. I plan to build/weld a a flat bed for it. So im not too worried about the rust on the bed. but the fender. I was wondering what would be the best way to repair rust? Cut that section out and weld a new one in? Because after that I was going to bondo it and paint it.

Sounds like a solid plan. Check out some of the build threads and such to see others do the same exact thing.

Grats on the truck. Welcome home. (you will understand the home part later)

Now get with the pictures and start a build thread.

If it is on the front fender, I would replace it just to eliminate rust all together. Otherwise sounds like you are off to a good start. Need pics, always like seeing new projects. I had a flat bed and they come in so handy. I miss mine at times.
