Gotta a 94 pick up 2wd and I went to change the front pads but decided that I also need to change the rotors. I was under the impression that the rotors simply slid right onto the stud but after removing my wheel it seems as though the stud is bolted to the rotor and it seems like this might be a pain in the ass job. Anyone have any tips for this job? Will I encounter problems getting this assembly off of the spindle? Will I have problems with the bearings?

 

remove wheel remove the caliper tying it up so it does not hang by the rubber hose

Remove wheel bearing remove hub remove the bolts holding rotor on hub . This is best done with a 1/2" impact . If you don`t have one a good vise and breaker bar

put the new rotor on put the hub back pack the wheel bearings

** At this time if you have new seals you may want to remove the inner wheel bearing and repack that as well.

Keep the new rotor clean or clean before installing new pads

Install the wheel bearing lock nut to the proper torque

 

Make sure you measure you adjust your wheel bearing preload and make adjustments.

I had a thread on here a few days ago about installing new rotors on my 94 pickup 2WD. A few people suggested that I check and adjust the bearing preload while i do this. What exactly does this mean?? How to I adjust the preload? Does it have something to do with high tightly I torque the nut on the spindle that holds the rotor/hub assembly on? Please any clarification appreciated. I have a manual for a 93 pickup and the instructions for preload are not very good.
