replacement seat help
Ok, I have searched the forums and seen what seats people are using. but my problem is I am BIG. 6'4", 350 lbs. My problem is most posts I have found online say stuff like "I can see over the hood better." I want to put some more comfortable bucket seats in the truck but if I go any larger than the seats that are already in it then I'm gonna have issues being able to drive the truck. I already dont have enough room to stick my hand between the steering wheel and my knee while im driving. Its a regular cab short bed 1990 4x4. If possible I need something shorter than what is already in it and something that will move further back to give me more room if possible. I thought about getting some of the bestop jeep seats and modifying them to fit, my thought is that maybe the lower back might let me move the seats back more and if I mount them straight to the floor then maybe they might set me low enough in the truck. Any help would be much appreciated.

Check out the parting out forums and get yourself a tilt steering wheel if you dont have one already, I converted mine to tilt and it was little bit of a job but well worth it to me.
You have to unbolt the steering column with 4 bolts under the wheel, after taking off the plastics around there, and slide it backward.. also have to follow the shaft down and look at the other stuff to take out like the firewall plate it goes through before that..the ignition will come with so now youll have a new key, get that with the new column. all the electrical plugs involved are the same. youll have what you need and maybe a few extras that wont matter.. theres a little more if you get one PM me if you run into a problem.
also it doesnt have to be the same truck, just the same generation 86-95 truck or 4runner 2wd or 4wd..and if you dont want the steering wheel you can swap that with yours, may need a puller though to get it off, I didnt have to do that. But now it looks like I have cool things I dont like cruise control lol... some day.

I honestly hadn't thought about swapping to tilt, the reason i want to do the swap is I really dont have much money at all, we're trying to buy a house and we have a baby on the way. I eventually want an fjcruiser and ill just keep this truck to go out and play with so the swap would be something i would get to enjoy for quite a while.

This might sound funny or maybe even stupid, but when I was a kid I had a 1973 hi-lux and I took out the bench seat and bolted van captain chairs directly to the floor. Between the 2 seats I had a custom built 2-12" woofer enclosure. I looked a whole lot better than it sounded. You are half a foot taller than me and I could still see out to drive. Oh yeah, I did have to remove the armrest from the captain chairs, but just on the sides next to the doors. That truck was a jewel, lol. Thank God it has been melted down.
