Replace Rear Main Oil Seal
Hi all..I am doing the clutch on my 3vze, 3.0. I have nearly 400,000 miles on engine, and thought I should replace rear main while I'm in there. HOWEVER, is there a way to replace the seal without removing the retainer plate? I'm afraid I will create a leak if I start taking all that off. Thanks

I usually take a slotted(flathead) screwdriver, put it between seal lip an crank, and pry out the old seal. The old one can get damaged, since you're replacing it.
They do make a special tool for seal removal, but a slotted screwdriver works fine for me.

B. If rear oil seal retainer is installed to cylinder block:
(a) Using a knife, cut off the oil seal lip.
(b) Using a screwdriver, pry out the oil seal.
NOTICE: Be careful not to damage the crankshaft. Tape
the screwdriver tip.
(c) Apply MP grease to a new oil seal lip.
(d) Using SST and a hammer, tap in the oil seal until its
surface is flush with the rear oil seal retainer edge.
