rehealing the "ol reliable'

why will it start but not stay running? I have a 85 4cyc22re fuel injected 4runner. problem... key turns, engine starts, runs for 15 seconds, less each time you turn it over(fuel pump doesn't come on) Have hot wired the fuel pump directly from the battery, no change..cked the cor, put new..cked the main relay good voltage..vacume hoses good..fuel filter, put new..ideas what next?? summers approaching and this is my beach truck..

I'm not sure what all your abbreviations are...and I'll admit I don't know fuel injected vehicles, but did you make sure the fuel pump isn't bad?

there is no power to the fuel pump. (with the key in any position) it has a new fuel filter, and cor (circuit opening relay). have tested the afm (air flow meter) it seems to be within specs. i can hot wire the pump directaly to the battery and it will run the pump. after hot wireing the pump the truck will run for 5-10 sec then shut off. it just shuts off no bobeling or sputtering. when it runs it sounds good.
is there a place to attach a fuel presure gauge? to see if i have adequate pressure.

ive heard everything from the solinoid to the afm to the fuel pressure regulator.
i have some parts comming but any help or advice would be great. thanks

Are there any CEL codes? Even if the CEL light isn't on, check for codes.
Sure sounds like an AFM problem...

where do i jump the t and e on the harness? i understand it is by the coil on an 85 but i cant seem to find a picture anywhere in the book. and will the check engine light blink or will i need a jumper with a bulb on it to give me the blinking codes.
is it a white plug with perpendicular conections?

i tested the afm with a meter and according to the specs in the book it was almost precisely in the middle of the peramaters.

open to sugestions even from those in the frozen tundra. ha ha
looks COLD! thanks

well the donor truck helped. the donor truck , grey manual 85, ran and ran fine. but the goal was to get the white automatic 85 running, since it is set up like we want.

swaped the afm, the main relay, and the main computer box, and the fuel pump.
i am still not getting power to the fuel pump. even when i jump it @ the plug on the drivers side fender well by the coil. if i hot wire the fuel pump directly to the battery it will run. we were even able to drive it down the road. if i disconect the pump from the battery it will shut down.
unfortunately i broke the high pressure line on the donar truck when i was trying to disconnect the fitting. so i cannot test parts on a "running system".

i guess i just cant figure out why i have no power to the fuel pump. i have a new pump relay and good continuity from the relay to the pump. any help any where. thanks
