in a wet or icy situation you could spin out easier if you are not used to it.

To me the big downside is the increased tire wear on the rear tires. Open diff allows the tires to spin at different RPM's when turning. Inside wheel turns slower than the outside wheel--something like that.. Spool turns both wheels at the same RPM, causing increased tire wear when turning.

There is always the irritating "dog-hopping" too...
