rear leaf spring trouble

What's up guys? I've got a 1984 p/u that I just put a 3" lift on. The rear shackles are wanting to fold forward instead of flexing towards the rear, like they're supposed to. It drives fine on the street, but the first time I went off-road they folded under themselves... If you've had this problem and fixed it please tell me how. I've been thinking about bump stops, or longer shackles? Any info would be great! Thanks!

What sort of lift kit? Sounds like the rear springs could be too short, proper dimensions below:

4crawler: It's a cheap one. Rough country. It was the one designed for that truck. Once they relax a little bit they'll be long enough. You're right though; right now they're sprung pretty tight, which does make them a little short. I was thinking about welding some bump stops in a bracket at a 45 deg. angle right in front of the shackles to the frame. What do you think?

Give it a try. That is called an anti-inversion shackle, some vehicles run that stock. Or pull off a leaf and that will let the springs break in and flatten a little faster.

4crawler, thanks for your help. I think I'm gonna do the bumpers. I'll let you know how it goes.
