Really basic question

On the oil dipstick there is the "low" dot and a bit further up, the "full" dot. Is there a preferred level or do you just kind of shoot for the middle?

Not fuller than full and never lower than low.

Anything between is good.

My personal preference is for nearer full than low, but all is well anywhere above the low mark.

Most engines it is better to aim for the full mark

I like the full mark. Anything in between is will work.

It is my understanding that the area between the low and full marks represents one quart of oil capacity. If this is wrong, someone please correct me!
