R&P contact

Hi everyone. I have a 93 2wd yota pickup, I've had a lockright in it for 2 years and now am putting a yukon 4.56 ring and pinion in, I am unsure of the pattern, how does this look?

I just used the factory spacer in that pic. I ordered a shim kit, but hopefully someone can tell me whether I really need it or not. backlash is .0066 there, with the backlash at .0051 (minimum spec) the drive side contact was even farther inboard of the ring gear.

Check Gearinstalls.com and Yukon gear website. You'll find pictures and info of gear patterns there.

I'm no expert, but it looks like a great pattern.

Okay, I got it set up today and got the a better pattern than the pic by setting it to .008 backlash instead, the yukon manual says .006-.010 which is more than the fsm reccomends.

except... It is really hard to turn the ring gear/carrier within the lash, is that normal for new, un-lubed bearings and gears?

To answer my own question, I found on ZUK's page on carrier bearing preloadthat 17 in/lbs is okay, I estimate mine at around that.
