Question!

Can anyone tell/show me what the Toyota Griffin, Trailblazer and Mojave are. I saw a post that gave those names of vehicles, it sparked some interest onto what the significance (other than being pretty rare) is behind them and what they look like. Also, what makes a Toyota a Hilux?

I believe by griffin you mean the Soarer. info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Soarer

Or maybe you mean Griffith. This post should sum it up for you: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=790334

You can consider a TrailBlazer and Trekker a 2 door 4runner but before there were 4runners.

For the history behind the Hilux: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Hilux

The Hilux that he is reffering to most likely is a first generation. All the toyota pickups were called Hilux from 1979-1983. They were still Hilux's from 1984-1995.5, they just didn't have the badge so everyone refered to them as the "toyota pickup". Over in Europe, Australia, and other countries, Toyota is still making the Hilux. Here in America we have the Tacoma.

By the way sorry for correcting you, but it had to be done (this is of course assuming that I am correct)

In North America, the Hilux name was retired in 1976 in favor of Truck, Pickup Truck, or Compact Truck, until it was renamed the Tacoma in 1995.

I doooooon't knoooooooooow.

Wikipedia is tellin me that 1st gen pickups are still refered to as Hilux's, it stops using the name Hilux during 2nd gen pickups that were released in North America. Either way I am wrong about all the other years (which contrary to the evidence, doesen't happen alot).

Hmm Looking at this again:

Trailblazer = Made by Grifith

Trekker = Made by Winnebago.

Wikipedia contradicts themselves in that article I posted. Up top it says what I pasted about Hilux name ending in 79, then it still calls them Hilux in the Third Gen "79-83" which is pretty much referred to as a 1st gen pickup????

Yea I noticed that too, I think they were trying to tell the history of the Toyota pickup from the very first ones conceived in Japan, and try to blend the very first ones issued to the United States.

In 1976 the name "hilux" is removed and they are from then on "compact trucks"
