So I engage my 4 wheel drive for some fun on the weekend and I get a bad knocking sound from the front drive shaft. So I just popped it out to check the U joints and they all look fine. But what I did find was that ball inside the cardan? joint moves around which I think is causing the problem. Any ideas? thanks

 

Cardan joints like u-joints can wear out, i don`t know if there rebuildable or not, because ive never had one go bad, yet.

 

i just rebuit mine in my 82 it was a pita a good vise a large c clamp bfh and new ujoints from six states dist i have never done u joints befor and it was an experience.my vise wasnt larg enuf but the c clamp helped.i also replace the center ball got it from murls driveline in spokane wa nappa has them too you will need to know what size your shaft is(he he)
