Pre '84 5 speed swap

Newbie here guys but I got an '82 4x4 that my dad gave me & I want to put a 5 speed in it, but I have the opportunity to get a 5 speed from a IFS truck so I was wondering if it will fit in my solid axle truck? Or do I need a 5 speed from a solid axle truck? Any & all help/advice would be greatly appreciated Thank You Guys

Short answer is that it will "fit/bolt up" BUT, post 83, the transmissions are longer.
83 and older "L" series trans = 20.875" long
84 + trans = 25.5" long
(this info per marlin crawler here: Transmission Gear Ratio Chart | Marlin Crawler, Inc. )

L50 and L52(preferred) are the stock length 5 speed trans for the 79-83 4x4 pickups.
The W, G, and R series trans will fit/bolt up, but you have to move your transmission crossmember back (because you t case is further back) and likely shorten rear driveline and lengthen front.

yes, longer front and shorter rear driveshafts will be needed.
L52's are getting hard to find.
