Is it Possible to Convert a W56 Transmission

I kind of know the answer to this question, but I figured I would ask and hope that someone that has done it before and maybe get some good hints.

I was wondering if a W56 Forward transmission can be convert to a Top Shift Transmission.

I have the following:
1) Top shift Tail Housing case
2) Shifter rail(s)

I am looking at a W56 Forward transmission that is reasonably priced.

If anyone has done it before or has some sort of instructions please post.

Thanks

Okay I'm guessing no one needs to convert there trannys because they have a bunch of both versions around them.

Anyhow, I believe I no longer need to do this, but since I researched the internals of a tranny and kind of figured it out, I'll just go ahead and post it here.

1) First thing would be to remove the Shifter and Shift rails from your old top shifter. This picture below shows the necessary item(s) needed to be removed from your old transmission (top shifter) in red.

Then you will need to remove the tail housing from the new to you forward case. and shifter(s) and rails.

Once you have that all off, Go over to the Forward and pretty much remove the same thing including the rails for the t-case which will no longer be required. Install the shifter rail and Tail Housing that you removed from your original top shifter and bolt it together.

If I am missing something or made some sort of error, please feel free to correct me since my knowledge of trannys is very small and I will soon have to make this conversion.

Yeah I know that, but no one never gives details or answered any of the question about it and since 'm not to familiar with tranny's I just wanted to know. In any case thanks.

Yup that would be the what it takes if anyone wanted too. Very easy and simple, I just got 3 trannys out of the scrap yard 2 of them top shifters and the other forward shifter. I purchased a forward shifter way back knowing that the guts were fubar so that casing I'm going to swap out when I rebuild it.
